Second Grade Happenings

A lot has been happening in the second grade classroom this year. Check out what they have been up to!

Volunteer Firefighter Paul Brentlinger with the OCFD visited Mrs. Noteboom's second grade classroom and showed the students all the gear they need to wear. This is a yearlong partnership and the firefighters will visit once a month. The firefighters teach the kids many different aspects of fire safety.

We visited the Heritage Village in Sioux Center. The students spent a few hours learning about what life was like in the early 1900's. We visited a sod hut, a church, a typical home in the early 1900's, stores, and an old schoolhouse. We also got to see some animals, make apple cider, and watch pottery being made. It was a fun day!

Melissa Nelson, director of Siouxland Agriculture in the Classroom, shared a book with us about where a lot of our food and drink comes from. She will visit our classroom once a month to share many different things about agriculture around the country and our world.
