Trash Transformation

Each year the third grade class of Orange City Christian is given the opportunity to build an urban community. This project involves the use of donated trash including cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, and milk cartons, and transforming them into city buildings. This process requires the students to plan, design, build, and paint as their ideas emerge. Businesses constructed reflect those of Central Business Districts and Industrial Areas of large communities. This year the students even included a green space. They are also responsible for constructing a home in the suburbs. After the project was completed, the students wrote descriptions about their various businesses to be presented in a tour for students of OCCS. This year’s cities were out of this world!
