Under Construction: The Worker

This month, Pastor Mark Vande Zande took time to reflect on our January theme, Under Construction: The Worker.

A Thankful Worker

In order to build something that is under construction, one must have workers to build that building.  The wood is not picked up by itself. The nail guns do not release the nails into the wood by themselves. The walls do not go up, a truss doesn’t get lifted, and the shingles are not nailed down by themselves.  Every construction project needs workers to see the project through.

This year, at Orange City Christian School, as we continue to think about the theme, “Under Construction,” we want to focus this month on the Workers and how we, as fellow students, teachers, staff, parents, and grandparents alike, are the workers, helping to build each other up so that we can fulfill our mission for “service in God’s Kingdom.”  Each student, each teacher, each staff member, each parent and each grandparent is needed to build up our students to serve well in God’s Kingdom.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Now how do we do that?  How do we, as fellow workers, build each other up?  As students, we can build each other up by helping another student who is struggling with their homework, we can say kind words to our classmates, we can encourage each other on the basketball court and in the classroom, and we can let someone know we are praying for them.

As teachers, we can love on our students by encouraging them to do their best in everything they do, we can challenge them to strengthen their faith by memorizing the Scripture passages for each week and each month, and we can sit down and spend an extra five minutes with a student who is going through a tough time.

As parents and grandparents, we can take a vested interest in our children’s lives, attending their events, asking them what their favorite subject is and why, and sitting down with them to figure out their math homework.  We can continue to talk positively about Christian education, our teachers and our staff, and we can show them, through our financial giving, the value we see in a Christ-centered education.

As workers, we need to encourage each other and build each other up, just as in fact, we are doing.  Now we are to do this all with a grateful and thankful heart.  As 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, our January theme verses share, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”  All of us, from student, to staff, to teacher, to parent and grandparent need to have a thankful attitude as we continue to work to build God’s Kingdom in and through each other’s lives.  May God bless us with that attitude.

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
